On 2 November 1980 the first own aircraft - a Lockheed TriStar - was used on the new route from Colombo to Paris. Service to other European destinations - Zurick, Frankfurt and London - followed soon after. In addition to a small fleet of TriStars Boeing 737s were used for flights to India and the Maldives.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 1994 Air Lanka started taking delivery of a first order of 3 Airbus A340s. At this time the 737s were already replaced by Airbus A320 aircraft. The airline received its first A330 in 1999. In the same year it changed its name to SriLankan Airlines. 24 July 2001 was a sad day in the history of this small airline when 2 of its A330s and one A340 were totally destroyed by Tamil rebels at Colombo′s International airport.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe already brought you the model of Lockheed TriStar 4R-ULE in the old colors.
